Belkin KVM Switch Issue

Hello,

I just purchased a Belkin KVM switch in order to switch between two computers at my workplace.

One computer is a very, very old Gateway (over 8yrs old) that runs Microsoft Server 2000. There is a program installed on that computer that my manager refuses to lose access to, which is why that computer isn't out in the trash by now. (We don't have the install CD for the program any more, and I can't find them for purchase.) Basically, getting rid of that computer is not an option, but our company software won't run on it, so that's why I needed to buy the new computer.

The other computer is a brand-new Dell.

I purchased a PS2 Belkin KVM switch even though the Dell only has USB ports, as I intended to use PS2-to-USB adaptors to plug the cables into the Dell.

When I try to use the switch, the old Gateway functions just fine. When I switch to the new Dell and try to boot it up, it gives me a keyboard error, and the keyboard won't work.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I might try to get the switch working?

I think the KVM doesn't switch the keyboard in a USB friendly fashion.

Why don't you just image the old machine to a newer one?

What kind "model switch is that" ? I have installed KVM switch for few of my customers and I haven't see an issue with USB to PS2 yet (mind you I have seen one problem using KVM switch in a PS2 port off a motherboard).

Disk_Contented, regular imaging software is not an option when is come to to server.........ONLY Acronis True Image Server with Global Restore module can do the imaging which is an expensive option.

Cheers

I'm afraid not mate. UIU will do the job with any software imager you care to mention. HAL layer, no problem.
Ghost solution suite will do the job on it's own. (unless I'm mistaken)
Both were available before Acronis got in on the act, again, unless I'm mistaken.
I believe VMware add on can import a ghost image and run that too.
Even M$ have a deployment tool, that is used by UIU.
Or just do it yourself. There is a small pre-requisite to the DIY route......

What happens when the hardware this app is running on finally runs out?

Take the image, try the options. All you have to lose is a little time and a bit of work.

Despite what you may think, It is possible to move an OS to a completely alien machine without any high price software. Win 2K server, is basically win 2k with more services.
Check out 2K3. Right click the startbar and you would think you had XP, cos that's basically what it is.
